Mastering the Cut-off

Gavin Coles is one of the best at flighting the ball into the wind. Mastering the cut-off shot requires the correct posture and path coming into the ball. In this recent lesson Gary talks about stomping and trapping the ball correctly.

Bunker Masterclass

In this video Gary talks about the fundamentals of bunker technique and demonstrates how to simplify the process of judging distance and trajectory. The secret to bunker technique is in the Body Shape at set-up and the movement of the right arm and club-face.

Holding Your Positions

Maintaining Posture and Shape going back enables the club and arms to swing down without having to make any compensations with the body in transition in the RSS. In this video Gary talks about training your posture by setting up correctly and holding your positions.

The 60m Bunker Shot

Hogan's Swing Evolution

Looking at consecutive film of Hogan’s swing on the tee through the years, it looks to me as if his swing from 1950 on wards looks more Right Sided. I think that he may have had his near fatal car accident in 1949. Wondering what your thoughts are regarding my observation ? Regards Clinton

Bent Left Arm

Hi Gary, I had a cycling accident in February. Problem is I am now unable to fully straighten left arm with about a 20 degree bend, which will be permanent. Bent left arm is usually not a good thing! How I should go about rebuilding my swing around a bent left arm. Regards Mike.

The feeling in the golf swing of the speed being created with the head of the club causes major problems for a lot of golfers. In this video Gary explains how Handle Swingers generate speed from the inside-out and achieve superior impact positions.

Fairway Bunkers and Hard Pan

Gary often gets his players to practice in fairway bunkers and off hardpan lies because reinforces the key concepts of the Right Sided Swing. In this video Gary talks about how to play these shots and how they are similar.

Radius and Power

You can generate a lot of power with the speed of your arms and the shaft. If you coil around a central axis and have your radius correct you can swing your arms faster and further. In this video Gary talks about how to develop more speed without losing accuracy.

The Spine Angle

If your spine angle is correct at set-up and your arms are biased you can just coil around that position. The amount of turn you get is governed by how well you keep you spine angle. In this video Gary explains how to turn correctly in the RSS.

The Lead Side

It is very important to get the lead side correct at set-up in the RSS. Getting the left side in a strong position  allows you to turn the right side away from it and coil properly. In this video Gary explains the fundamentals of the lead side, relative ball position and how to simplify the set-up.

Jan Stephenson: Essential Putting Drills

Drills that ingrain your technique and also simulate tournament pressure can help you become more confident when it matters most. In this video LPGA hall of famer, Jan Stephenson, talks about her pre and post round putting routine. She outlines her essential putting drills.

Maintaining Wrist Angles

Hi Gary
I am new to the RSS and really enjoying all the videos. I have always had trouble manipulating the club in the take-away. I used to take it way inside going back. Can you explain how you initiate the take-away correctly without changing your wrist angles? Thx Geoff

Coming Around at the Ball

Hi Gary, You talk a lot about coming around at the ball and how this creates the straight flight your players have. Can you clarify how and when you come around? Sometimes when I try come around at it on the downswing I feel like I have to extend my arms going through or it goes left? Regards Steve

Range Work and Tournament Prep

Getting solid contact before you play is important. In this video Gary explains what he does with his players on the range before a tournament round. Making things simple will help you take your swing from the range to the course.

Connection and Arm Fold

You will see a lot of amateurs and even professionals on the tour using devices to simulate the feeling of connection. In this video Gary demonstrates how the body and arms should work in the RSS and talks about the origin of connection problems.

Mastering the Half Swing

Mastering the set-up and the first two feet of the swing is the key to developing an efficient and repeatable motion. In this video Gary explains how to start correctly, how both elbows work and why you get more power with the RSS.

Impact and Shaft Speed

Starting at impact and working back can make it easier to get the angle of the wrists correct. Here are a couple of exercises you can do with an impact bag to get more shaft speed and ingrain the RSS power source.

Radius: The RSS Engine

The Body Posture and the Arm Structure take care of where the club goes in the Right Sided Swing. If you get into position early and maintain Radius you can focus on the motion and easily add more speed.

Longer Drivers and More Speed

With the PGA champion playing a 47″ plus driver to gain more distance, what does a longer shaft do to the feel of the swing (flex, kick point, etc.)? Your swing sequence video using a 3m dowel looks like a good drill to prep for the longer driver. Your thoughts?
Thanks.
Jack

Accuracy then Speed

Hitting a flighted wedge consistently is almost impossible without good technique. In this Lesson Gary explains the importance of getting accuracy and trajectory first with some practice techniques to ingrain the concept.

The Left Shoulder Move

Understanding the Left Shoulder Motion and how the left side works is critical if you are going to turn in the right direction. In this video Gary talks about the importance of how it starts and moves going back. This movement will stop you holding on and falling back though impact.

Arms Lead

Players usually get in trouble in the transition when they shift or clear the body early. Having the Arms Lead is only possible if your backswing is coiled and you have Shape.Tiger had this Drill mastered and many of Gary’s players still do it to check they are in the correct position going back.

Shoulder Direction and Wrist Action

The direction of the shoulders turn in the RSS allows players to get the swing path correct without any independent hand action. In this lesson Gary and Peter Senior talk about their swings patterns and how they feel when they are striking it best.

Driver: Catch-up Vs Leverage Power

Having a stable and square club-face at impact can be difficult to achieve if you are getting your power from catch-up moves. In this video Gary explains how to get more power from Leverage and become more stable under pressure.

In this video Gary explains how his players all have a model and how you can build a swing model with a phone and a few simple exercises.

Hitting with the Right Side

Hitting with the Right Side is only possible if you have a strong left side. In this video Gary talks about the order of movement and how maximum speed is generated at impact in the Right Sided Swing.

Peter Fowler: Covering and Trapping

It is more difficult to cover and trap the ball if your shoulders go under early. Better players can still find impact but most often their bad shots can be traced back to the set-up and the first move. Peter Fowler has been one of Australia’s best golfers for over four decades and is still working hard to become more consistent.

Supporting the Shaft

Many Tour Players struggle with over-hinging and getting steep coming down. In the RSS the turn and right arm direction ‘void’ the wrists make it easier to get a shallow the path coming in. Gary works with RSS Champion Jason Pavese, on supporting the shaft at the top of the swing.

Leverage and the Right Arm

Hitting with the Right Side is only possible if you have the first move down correct. In this video Gary talks how the right arm works to create leverage and some advice from legendary Australian Tour Player, Steve Elkington.

Finding Impact: Darren Clarke

Great ball strikers know the feeling of covering the ball and trapping the ball at impact. Finding Impact is much easier when you set-up correctly. Gary talks to European Tour coach Luke Ringrose about some advice he gave at Morocco Champions.

Tour Chipping

Most Tour Players have a couple of stock chip shots. They can usually hit the low shot that runs and the higher shot with spin without making huge changes to their body action. Maintaining radius and the club-face-body relationship creates consistent trajectory and spin.

The Right Shoulder Move

Understanding the turn and how the right shoulder moves is crucial in the RSS. In this video Gary talks about the correct turn direction and how to avoid stagnation.

Driver: Keeping the Shape

Many students struggle to maintain their Shape with the Driver. People tend to move more laterally and increase their Shape coming down in an effort to hit the ball higher and further. In this video Gary talks about the importance of the set-up and keeping the Shape.
